Holiday memories #1

A few weeks ago I went on a little road trip with some friends. Our getaway was quick (only one night) but we squeezed as much sunshine and beach time out of it as possible. Everything turned out perfectly: a lucky accident ended up with us getting our accommodation for free, we didn't forget anything important and the weather was amazing. Here's a few snapshots:

On repeat #2

If you're a Taking Back Sunday fan then you're probably familiar with their first album, Tell All Your Friends. If you're not a fan then I don't know what you've been doing with your life. To celebrate the ten year anniversary of the albums release Taking Back Sunday released an acoustic CD of their live performance of the album. I've been listening to the CD pretty much non stop every since it came out. It love hearing the new versions of some of my favourite songs. You can also watch them perform the whole album over here. I'm not going to admit how many times I've watched this so far.

I didn't spend any money today

I didn't spend any money today. Nor yesterday.

Trust me, this is a rarity. I'm constantly at war with myself. I want to have money in my bank account consistently (not just a few days after payday). I want to save money to have my own home. But I also want new workout gear and every book that I read about and that lipstick I saw on that blog. I  would love to have money in my account without constantly thinking 'what should I spend it on?'. It's easy to not spend any money when you don't have any to spend, but it's another story when it is sitting there, taunting me.
I spend most of my day sitting at a computer, so if there is something that I (think I) need, I log on and buy it online. I don't even have to pull my purse out of my bag (gee, thanks PayPal). But I'm trying to remedy this. I am trying not to let the greed overcome me and learn to be happy with what I have, which is a big task.

It's a work in progress, but I'm taking baby steps.

Today I achieved my goal: I didn't spend any money today.

I made my lunch at home and took it to work with me. I came home and did my workout for free: I took my dog for a run and did some workout videos on YouTube. I cooked dinner for myself using what was in the fridge. I then watched some Gossip Girl DVDs and read a book. Obviously every day can't be like this. I have to buy the food to put in the fridge and pay for petrol and rent and other exciting things like that. I will also go out for dinner and buy a dress and come home with a magazine I will never ever read. And that's okay in moderation. As long as I'm working towards my goals.

I didn't spend any money today. I know that every day won't be like this. But I'm hoping that more will.

On repeat #1

I can't be the only person who listens to their favourite song on a loop, right? I listen to songs incessantly for weeks on end until I'm sick of them* (or until everyone around me begs me to quit). Anyway, here is my latest obsession: Sex by The 1975. It was a total fluke that I came upon this song, I accidentally clicked into iTunes and it was on the front page for free. I love free things so I listened to the preview and then immediately downloaded (and pressed repeat).

And this is how it starts...

she said use your hands in my spare time
we've got one thing in common, it's this tongue of mine
she's got a boyfriend anyway
* Unless that song is Party In The U.S.A. which I'm still not sick of, four years later.

Hi there

So, I'm back. My last post here was back in the beginning of 2011. Since then I've posted a heap of beauty stuff over at hopeful aspirations. I've done many other things too, but we won't get into that now.

Lately I've been feeling guilty about not living up to expectations. My own expectations. Somewhere along the line, I decided that I was going to post every single day on my other blog. I have absolutely no obligations to post there, apart from the ones I created for myself. As a result of this, I favoured quantity over quality. There are some posts which I'd thrown together on my lunch break or whipped up in 5 minutes, just for the sake of being able to hit the 'publish' button daily. Don't get me wrong, I'm proud of my blog. As embarrassing as it can be, I enjoy sharing it with my friends and family - although it does get awkward when my Nonna say to me "have you made any more of those video things? Honestly, I can't imagine why someone would want to sit there and watch one of those". I also love being able to connect with other people online. I still love blogging but honestly, it's nice to go for a few days without even opening up my laptop.

So why am I here? If I'm struggling to post on one blog, why start writing at another? In short, I was inspired. To write about things a tad more meaningful than my favourite lipstick or my trash for a given month (don't get me wrong, I will never stop loving empties posts). What better place to do it than my old stomping ground?

Expect something different here. It's going to be more personal, more eclectic and more free. I am hoping that this blog can help me to become a better person. Perhaps it will inspire you too (although I'm sure you're already perfect). I'm not going to set any sort of posting schedule or goals for this site. If I feel like it, I will post. If I don't have a chance, I won't. It's as simple as that. I will still be blogging over at hopeful aspirations, but perhaps only twice a week, focusing on quality over quantity.

See you soon,

Bits & Pieces

This week I have been...

- trying my hardest to avoid chocolate, with terrible results.

- laughing at The Man Repeller.

Just because you won't be at shows doesn't mean you shouldn't wear the furry wedge-booties, labial sweater and virtually anything Opening Ceremony that you've been coveting but seem to have nowhere to wear. To quote the ever eloquent and highly respected Hilary Duff, "Why not? Take a crazy chance. Why not? Do a crazy dance."
...This way, when your man friend says "What the fuck," you can refute: "It's fashion week, jackass."

- wearing Becca Beach Tint (I now have three copies of March Madison).

- watching Keeping Up With The Kardashians - I know, I know.

- on the hunt for work clothes (so frustrating) and the perfect cape (inspired by Rachel Bilson).

- trying to teach Luca how to sit

- listening to Paramore

 - wearing black eyeliner, as I 'fixed' my Stila Smudge Pot - it now looks like this:

and reading Steig Larsson's Millennium trilogy - so good!

Working towards my goals

I want to make a (short) checklist of things to do each day. I usually make a massive list of things to do which usually sits there for weeks and nothing ever gets done.

This is an example of some lists I wrote 2-3 weeks ago:

This week, I want to focus on having a list of just a few items, that are actually achieveable each day.

Todays list is:

This list has more small items on it but as it's already 1:30 and I have work at 4, it will challenge me to complete these items. Now that I can cross off the first item, I am now off to the gym!
